Introduction: For an assertive communication between patients with hearing impairment and the nursing professional, communication strategies are required in the oral, verbal and sign fields, which need to be strengthened from the academy. The university must include oral, written and sign communication skills in its curricular programs to generate adequate communication processes and achieve therapeutic objectives with users. Materials and methods: An educational strategy was built in five stages: foundation, refers to the compilation of the available bibliography; preparation, organization of information for the strategy; dissemination, whose purpose is to publicize the project, implementation consisted of 13 online synchronous sessions in which the student was trained in Mexican sign language (LSM). Evaluation carried out using a rubric. Results: 75% of the students obtained sufficient mastery of the LSM and 31.5% of the participants did not qualify with a sufficient score in the mastery of the LSM nursing vocabulary. Conclusions: The implementation of an educational communication program from training will contribute to quality care by reducing factors that impair communication between staff and users with hearing disabilities.
