Objective: To describe cognitive decline and its relationship with glycated hemoglobin in older adults with type 2 diabetes in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Method: This was an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study of 58 individuals aged 60 years or older with type 2 diabetes. A data form and the MoCA assessment were administered, and glycated hemoglobin levels were obtained from medical records. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee (FENL-CEI-P007). Data were analyzed using SPSS v. 26, employing descriptive and inferential statistics via Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Results: Sixty-five-point five percent were women with a mean age of 68.38 ± 7.33 years. The mean MoCA score was 20.19 ± 4.48 points, and the mean glycated hemoglobin level was 7.48 ± 2.10%. A non-significant negative correlation was found between the MoCA score and glycated hemoglobin (rs = −0.002, p = 0.987). Conclusions: Cognitive impairment was not associated with glycated hemoglobin levels in the study sample; however, a considerable prevalence of cognitive impairment and high levels of glycated hemoglobin was found in older adults with type 2 diabetes.
